After graduating from Brown, Andrea moved to Los Angeles. Three months later she moved to New York to try to repair her college relationship. Five months later she moved back to L.A. and has been there since.

In April of 2002 she began writing her first novel, Like the Red Panda, and it was picked up by Harcourt later that year.
